PELLA—
Emily Blom (freshman, Pella) brought home two titles when she won the C-Flight of singles championship and the C-Flight of doubles championship.
In the Semifinals of the C-flight of singles Blom defeated Brooke Bloom from Wartburg 4-0, 4-1 for the second time this season. Blom then went on to win the championship match 4-0, 4-1 over Ellie Kalina from Loras. After this weekend Blom won her last nine singles matches to finish the fall season.
"She had a tough first round match and once she got past that match, she was able to settle down and play her game," said coach
Ryun Ferrell. "She drives her opponents crazy, and she is a tough player to take down. It is impressive to see."
Blom partnered with
Abbie Den Adel (senior, Ankeny, Centennial HS) and ran the table in the C-flight of doubles. In the semifinals the duo defeated the No. 3 seed from Wartburg 6-2. In the championship they upset the No. 1 seed from the University of Dubuque 6-2 to take home the title.
In the B-flight of doubles,
Becca Vala (senior, Omaha, Neb., Elkhorn HS) and
Jenna Mitsuko Mahoney (junior, Misawa, Japan, Robert D. Edgren HS) fell in the semifinal to the No. 2 seed from Loras College 6-2 but took third place defeating a duo from Nebraska Wesleyan University 6-1.
The final medalist for the Dutch came when
Ava Lucas (freshman, Marshalltown) got third place in the D-flight of singles. She defeated Ella Engelhaupt from Dubuque 4-2, 5-4 (7-3).
"We looked better today," Ferrell said. "We looked relaxed and the whole team played solidly. It was great to see them embrace the final day of the fall season."
