Central blanks Westminster in women’s soccer win

Dutch return home with a victory

PELLA — For the third time this season, the Central College women's soccer team bagged a shutout victory by downing Westminster College (Mo.) 3-0 Saturday.

Central (3-1-2) got an early start to the scoring from Abby Frey (senior, Mesa, Ariz., Desert Ridge HS), who connected on her second goal of the year three minutes into the match.

"Abby had a great game," coach Mike Kobylinski said. "She won every ball in the middle and started off with a banger of a left-footed goal."

Grace Coates (junior, Marion) made it 2-0 with her goal in the 25th minute. She leads the team with seven on the season.

After assisting on the first two strikes, Paige Cahill (senior, Castle Rock, Colo., Castle View HS) powered a third goal from deep to get the game to its final scoring margin.

"That goal was wonderful," Kobylinski said. "When Grace, Paige and Abby are on the score sheet good things happen."

Zoey Sizemore (freshman, Omaha, Neb., Mercy HS) played 82 minutes and made three saves for the win. Bailey Lester (sophomore, Sioux Falls, S.D., Washington HS) made a save in eight minutes of action off the bench.

Kobylinski also cited the effort of captain Emma Garrett (junior, Mason City) as she played 47 minutes in the back row.

The Dutch travel to Illinois College Sunday for a 4 p.m. match.

"We need to be ready to go tomorrow," Kobylinski said. "We played everybody today and hopefully we can get as many people in tomorrow as possible in order to stay as fresh as we can."
