CRETE, NEB. — Another four members of the Central College track and field team kicked off their indoor season at the Doane Happy Holidays Multi-Event over the weekend.
           
Olivia Bohlen was (sophomore, Belle Plaine) was the highest finisher of the Central crew, placing third of 10 in the women's pentathlon with 3,244 points. Teammate Karsyn Lamm (junior, Mount Pleasant) was eighth with 2,445 points.
           
In the men's heptathlon, Jaxon Thompson (junior, Marion, Linn-Mar HS) was fifth with 3,875 points. Gage Huyser (sophomore, Pella) completed just the opening 60-meter dash before withdrawing.
           
Bohlen's total was a new career-high mark, but she also had new personal-best marks in the shot put (33-9.25) and long jump (17-4.25). Lamm hadn't completed a pentathlon sine 2021 but also had new bests in the high jump (4-6.25) and shot put (29-8)
           
"Olivia had a great meet," assistant coach Aaron Fuller said. "That was a solid score, especially for December."
           
Thompson had the best shot put (36-4.75), pole vault (12-9.5) and the second-best long jump in the field (20-9.25). He was listed as a "DNF" (did not finish), in the 1,000-meter race that closes out the competition.
           
"Jaxon had a solid first day," Fuller said. "He's coming back off an injury and you could tell he was sore on the second day."
           
The full Central track and field squad will compete Saturday at the Dutch Holiday Preview, a meet Central is hosting in the H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse starting at 11 a.m.
