ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS—Playing a pair of matches at the Augustana Pumpkin Bash Friday night, the Central College volleyball team added a win against Marian University (Wis.) before dropping the nightcap to Augustana College (Ill.)
The Dutch (22-9) beat the Sabres (15-12) 25-18, 25-16, 25-23 and fell to the Vikings 25-15, 25-19, 25-10.
"We took care of things in the first match," coach
Jeanne Czipri said. "We struggled to come together and help each other focus in our second match."
Against Marian,
Gracie Daniels (senior, Broken Arrow, Okla.) had a team-high nine kills while
Gracie Pierson (junior, Lake City, Minn.) had eight kills on 12 attempts for a .667 attack percentage. Freshman setter
Landry Pacha (Solon) had 16 assists while
Makayla Ribble (sophomore, Iowa City) had 12.
Pierson and defensive specialist
Gwen Kahlke (junior, Blandinsville, West Prairie HS) each had two service aces in the win. Libero
Colleen Kenney (sophomore, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Rock Island Alleman HS) had 16 digs.
Sophia Folkerts (freshman, Dike, Dike-New Hartford HS) was involved in two blocks.
Elyse Johnson (senior, Kirksville, Mo.), Trinity Vos (sophomore, Pella, Pella Christian HS) and Folkerts each had four kills to lead the Dutch in the loss. Pacha had 18 assists and three service aces. Pierson and Johnson combined for two blocks and Kenney had 13 digs.
Central was without two starters in setter
Avery Rexroat (junior, Macomb, Ill.) and middle hitter
Emma Wagler (junior, Des Moines, Roosevelt HS). Both were resting and are expected to play Tuesday.
The Dutch open the American Rivers Conference tournament with a 7 p.m. quarterfinal match at Simpson College Tuesday night.
"We are eager for some rest," Czipri said. "We are going to get ready for Tuesday's match."
