Tanner Schminke, who received first-team Division III all-America honors from the Associated Press and D3fooball.com as a wide receiver, is joining the staff as an assistant coach. He'll work with defensive ends.

Schminke, a Boone, Iowa native and 2021 Central graduate, served as head boys and girls golf coach at Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School last spring and since March was also the golf course superintendent at Oakleaf Country Club in Reinbeck.

At Central, Schminke was a part of two American Rivers championship clubs and helped the Dutch post a 12-1 record last fall, reaching the NCAA Division III quarterfinals and finishing with a No. 6 ranking. He led Division III in touchdown receptions (19) and receiving yards (1,536), ranked fifth in receiving yards per game (118.2), 11th in scoring (114 points) and 16th in receptions per game (7.2). His last-second TD reception gave Central a 30-28 walk-off NCAA second-round playoff triumph over Wheaton College (Ill.).

Schminke set school season records for most receiving yards and touchdown receptions and ranks second in receiving yards in a game (255), season (19) and career (29). He ranks third in career pass receptions (163) and fourth in career receiving yards (2,491).

A 2021 first-team all-conference pick, Schminke was twice named to the D3football.com Team of the Week last fall.

Staff responsibilities announced, Bollard retires—Most of the other coaching staff position responsibilities will remain the same this fall. Associate head coach Ryan Maiuri is again the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach while Mitch Shepherd is in his first year as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Logan Emendorfer is coaching receivers, Logan Huinker is working with running backs, Drew Sikkink is coaching tight ends and Eric Jones is coaching the offensive line. On defense, Seth Marburger is coaching the defensive line, Austin Mercer is coaching cornerbacks, Matt Paulsen is working with safeties and Collin Erickson is coaching outside linebackers.

McMartin also announced that Jeff Bollard, who served as a part-time assistant coach for 35 years, has retired from coaching. Bollard, who most recently was the Dutch running backs coach, is a 1989 Central graduate. The Pocahontas, Iowa native is also the vice president of information technology at Precision Pulley and Idler in Pella.

"Having been here as a player when Jeff was an assistant coach and now being able to coach with him for the last several years, it's been a real pleasure having him on our staff," McMartin said. "He's been a valued staff member and also a great connection with Central's past. He was always someone I could bounce ideas off of and get a great perspective. We're excited that he's still going to be around and I know we'll see him at a lot of games."

Also leaving are Cody Huisman, a 2014 Central graduate who served for seven seasons, and Kyle Pepper, a 2016 Central grad who spent four years on the staff.
