Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Central tennis squads taken down by Division II school

LIBERTY, MO. — Central College's men's and women's tennis teams traveled together to William Jewell University for a pair of matches and both squads were defeated 7-0.

In NCAA Division II matches, whoever wins the best-of-three doubles matches earns a single point. It's the second time the men's and women's programs have played the same school on the same day.

"It's fun to do these matches with both teams," coach Ryun Ferrell said. "It's hard to do logistically it can be tough and I'm running around everywhere trying to watch matches but it's still fun."

The loss evened the Dutch men's record at 5-5. The women are at 11-10 on the season.

"We didn't go into this match thinking we're going to dominant them," Ferrell said. "They are a Division II team with scholarships and they've got a good coach. They are as good right now as they've ever been."

The Dutch men are in Seward, Nebraska next Friday for a 4 p.m. match against Concordia University. The women are off until April 9 when they travel to Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois for a 3:30 p.m. match.

"Everyone on the men's team is still figuring out their new roles," Ferrell said. "it's been exciting and fun. The women are looking and better and better and getting to the form they had at the end of the fall."
