Dutch women secure road tennis win against Buena Vista

Central moves to 4-0 in conference play

Box Score STORM LAKE — The Central College women's tennis team ran its record in American Rivers Conference matches to 4-0 with a 9-0 whitewashing of Buena Vista University Wednesday afternoon.

Central (6-5, 4-0 conference) have won 41 straight against the Beavers (0-6, 0-3 conference) and haven't lost a team point since 2018.

"We played very solid," coach Ryun Ferrell said. "We took care of business like we should. They're an improved team but we played smart. We didn't give them any reason to be excited."

Ferrell cited his No. 6 singles player for Alex Griggs (junior, Knoxville) for her performance in a 6-0, 6-0 win. She also won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles with Jenna Hernandez (sophomore, Slater, Ballard HS).

"She did a great job," he said. "She won very fast in singles. It's a credit to her because she gave her opponent nothing. She didn't really have any unforced errors."

All three Central doubles teams won 8-2. The No. 1 pairing was Bronwyn Metcalf (senior, Pella) and Jennifer Larson (freshman, Johnston). Seniors Sarah Schirm (Cedar Rapids, Xavier HS) and Katie Larson (Fort Madison) played at No. 2.

Metcalf was a 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Maddie Hartley (senior, Clarinda) triumphed 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2 slot. Katie Larson and Schirm had identical 6-0, 6-1 wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. Brianna Lindstrom (sophomore, North Aurora, Ill., West Aurora HS) rounded out the lineup with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5.

A handful of Central players will represent the program at the ITA Division III Midwest Regional this weekend in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Matches start on Friday morning.

"It's going to be a great opportunity to see what else is out there," Ferrell said. "We'll see some good players from other schools."
