DUBUQUE — A complete game, 12-strikeout performance by Central College baseball pitcher Ryan Riddle (senior, Omaha, Neb., Mount Michael HS) gave the Dutch a 4-1 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader with Loras College Friday night.
Central (9-15, 6-12 American Rivers Conference) was defeated 8-5 in the opener.
Riddle limited the Duhawks (15-9, 10-8 conference) to one run on two hits with a walk. He faced just 30 batters, three over the minimum.
"It was amazing," coach Matt Schirm said. "I've never seen him in command of all of his pitches so well. He was dominant throughout, he made one mistake on the home run, but other than that they never even threatened to score in any inning."
Designated hitter Tanner Bigelow (freshman, Gibert, Ariz., Highland HS) drove in five runs, including a two-run blast in the first game and two RBI singles in the second game.
"He's a very talented hitter," Schirm said. "He's growing up quick as far as learning how to string together good at-bats at the varsity level."
Second baseman Lucas Farren (senior, Yorkville, Ill.) had three hits in the first game from the leadoff spot, including a home run in his first at-bat of the doubleheader.
"Lucas hit very well, especially in the first game," Schirm said.
Third baseman Quinn Miller (senior, Cedar Rapids, Xavier HS) had two hits in the opener and a triple in the nightcap.
Marcus Wenzel (senior, Chicago, Ill., Luther North College Prep) started the first game, giving up six runs on seven hits in the loss.
Central continues its' four-game series at Loras College for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Saturday.
