SIOUX CITY —
Bronwyn Metcalf (senior, Pella) made the A-Flight semifinals at the American Rivers Conference Individual Championships Friday, while
Macy Scharff (senior, Oskaloosa) and
Jennifer Larson (freshman, Johnston) made it to the final four of the C-Flight.
Coach
Ryun Ferrell brought 16 members of his team to Sioux City for the final competition of the fall and entered them in the three separate brackets.
"I told the team that they need to be proud of what they did," Ferrell said. "There's no quit in this squad, they'll keeping coming after you. We were tough all day long."
The No. 8 seed, Metcalf went 3-1 on the day and will play in the third-place match on Saturday. She opened with a 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 win over Eliza Sundermann (Coe College) and then beat Nicole Lange (Buena Vista University) 6-1, 6-4. She knocked off the No. 1 seed Madison Schultz (Coe) 3-6, 7-5, 10-5 before losing 6-2, 6-1 to Renata Martinez (Luther College).
"She played some of the smartest tennis I've ever seen her play," Ferrell said. It was horrible conditions being super windy and cold. She stuck to her plan and did not waver from it."
Scharff advanced to the championship of the C-Flight and that match will be completed Saturday after darkness forced it to be stopped before completion. She was 4-0 with wins against Nicole Cerio of Nebraska Wesleyan University (8-2), Maura Kapala of Loras College (8-2), Sampson Brown of Loras (8-1) and Linnea Wolle of Luther (6-7 [6], 6-4, 10-0).
"She did some good stuff all day," Ferrell said. "I was proud of everything she's done."

"She was finding ways to win all day," Ferrell said. "I'm impressed by what she's done as a freshman."
Katie Larson (senior, Fort Madison) was Central's top player in the B-Flight, winning her first two matches before losing in the quarterfinals 6-2, 6-2 against No. 3 Clair Moore of Loras College. Larson, the No. 3 seed, beat Emily Rubbelke (Luther) 8-2 and Kennedi Wright (Simpson College) 6-4, 6-3.
