Box Score WATERLOO — Completing a 5-0 run at the American Rivers Conference individual championships, Central College women's tennis player
Sarah Behrens (junior, Red Oak) secured the C-Flight singles championship.
It's the second time in three years Central has won the C-Flight title,
Kirsten Jordan was the champion in 2017.
Behrens needed three sets to win both of her matches, starting with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 win over Loras College's Marianna Bayona Paez in the semifinal.
In the title match, Behrens knocked off Sydney Clausen (Luther College) 6-2, 6-2, 10-6
"That was probably some of the smartest tennis I've ever seen her play," coach
Ryun Ferrell said. "It looked like the court made a lot of sense to her. She put it away with four straight points at the end."
The fall season is complete for the Dutch women and they end with a 5-6 dual record. The team recorded a 4-4 mark in conference matches and have qualified for the league team tournament in the spring.
"We clinched our ticket to the tournament, which is always great," Ferrell said. "We need to take a couple of weeks to get away from the game a little bit, but then we'll get into the weight room to get ready for the spring."
Central's first competition of the spring is a triangular in Cedar Rapids against Coe College and Webster University (Mo.) on February 29.
