DUBUQUE — A 24-19 first quarter lead slipped away from the Central College women's basketball team Saturday in a 79-62 loss to the University of Dubuque.
Central trailed 41-38 at the break but a 22-7 third quarter doomed the Dutch.
"Really thought the start of the third quarter was the difference," said coach
Joe Steinkamp. "We had a lot of good possessions where we missed open shots and missed free throws. We need to be able to put a 40-minute game together."
The Dutch were led offensively by reserve forward
Tina Lane (Williamsburg) with 14 points and seven rebounds.
"Tina did a nice job tonight providing us a spark off the bench," said Steinkamp.
Senior forward
Jackie Kriegel (Marengo, Iowa Valley HS) logged her eighth statistical double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.
"Another good game by Jackie," said Steinkamp. "It is so hard to average a double-double in this league and she continues to be relentless on the glass."
Senior guard
Emily Dine (Oldsmar, Fla., East Lake HS) had 11 points and two assists and senior guard
Alison Malaby (Mechanicsville, North Cedar HS) tallied eight points and seven rebounds.
Dubuque outshot Central 40.9 percent to 37.7 but the Dutch won the battle on the glass 44-43.
A trip to Iowa Conference rival Simpson College awaits Central Wednesday night for a women's-men's doubleheader with the women beginning at 6 p.m. The Storm won the first matchup 89-74 January 17.
