Dine drills five threes in women’s basketball defeat

INDIANOLA — Central College senior sharpshooter Emily Dine (Oldsmar, Fla., East Lake HS) shot 5-of-10 from beyond the arc in an 86-58 loss to Simpson College Wednesday night.

Dine finished with 15 points and two assists. The sharp-shooting guard continues to extend her all-time 3-point record to 216. Dine sits just nine 3-pointers behind her single season record of 82. She also leads the Iowa Conference with 3.3 trifectas a game.

"It was good to see Emily knock down some threes," said coach Joe Steinkamp. "When we broke their press, she got free quite a bit."

Senior forward Jackie Kriegel (Marengo, Iowa Valley HS) collected 12 rebounds and tallied five points. Kriegel leads the league with 11.5 boards per game, over two rebounds more than the next best.

Senior reserve forward Tina Lane (Williamsburg) scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds.

"Tina Lane had another nice game off the bench," said Steinkamp. "She really played with a lot of energy."

The Dutch were outshot 50.7 percent to 34 and outrebounded 38-35. Simpson's defense caused havoc for Central leading to 26 Dutch turnovers.

"Turnovers really cost us again tonight," said Steinkamp. We felt especially in the first half we were getting good shots but just couldn't hit enough of them. That combined with the turnovers made it tough. When you turn it over 26 times it makes it really hard on your defense to get stops."

Central (7-15, 2-11 conference) hosts Luther College (15-9, 9-4 conference) Saturday for a women's-men's doubleheader with the women beginning at 2 p.m. Luther won the opening matchup 66-48 November 29 in Decorah. A webcast and live stats will be available at athletics.central.edu.
