GRINNELL — A trio of Central College men's hurdlers racked up points in the 60-meter hurdles event to spearhead the Dutch effort at the Darren Young Indoor Classic Saturday.
With a significant wealth of distance runners and sprinters competing at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic, the partial Dutch men's squad scored just 30 points and finished eighth.
After qualifying a disappointing eighth,
Hunter Pollpeter (senior, Fort Madison) wound up in third place in the 60-meter hurdles after a personal-best time of 8.54 seconds.
"Hunter might have been the team MVP this weekend," Dunham said. "He ran fantastic and he's really confident right now which is good to see."
Ryan Kruse (senior, St. Clair, Minn.) was fourth in the same event in 8.61 seconds and
Will Daniels (sophomore, Geneseo, Ill.) was sixth in 8.68 seconds.
"Will and Ryan had really good times, too." Dunham said.
Running the program's first 4x200-meter relay of the season,
Caleb Jennings (junior, Spirit Lake), Chris Neeld (senior, New Boston, Ill., Mercer County HS), Trevor Ruiz (senior, Hudson) and
Tre Wilridge (senior, Sierra Vista, Ariz., Tombstone HS) were fourth in 1:34.36
In the field events,
Nathan Fitzgerald (junior, Elkader, Central HS) was third in the shot put (48-11.75).
Tanner Johnson (freshman, Gallatin, Mo.) cleared the bar at 13-1.5 in the pole vault, taking sixth.
Jordon Woods (sophomore, Orland Park, Ill., Carl Sandburg HS) was seventh in the triple jump, reaching 39-5.75.
Next weekend, the Dutch track squads will be split between the Nebraska Tune-up on Friday and the Wartburg Invitational on Saturday.
