DUBUQUE — Central College senior forward
Jackie Kriegel (Marengo, Iowa Valley HS) led the Dutch with 12 points and 11 rebounds, however the Dutch were on the wrong end of a 70-59 defeat at Loras College Monday evening.
Kriegel's performance was her third statistical double-double of the season. Kriegel led a trio of Dutch in double figures.
"Jackie continues to play with amazing energy and determination," said coach
Joe Steinkamp. "She had a great all-around game."
The Duhawks outshot the Dutch 49.1 percent to 37.5 and won the battle on the glass 38-29.
Central (7-9 overall, 2-5 Iowa Conference) faced a 32-26 halftime deficit and senior guard
Emily Dine (Oldsmar, Fla., East Lake HS) opened the second half with a three before Loras (11-6 overall, 3-5 Iowa Conference) pulled away to take a double-digit lead.
"I thought Loras did a nice job tonight being patient on offense," said Steinkamp. "They made a lot of plays late in the shot clock and I think that was the difference."
Dine finished with 11 points, including three trifectas and fellow senior guard
Jessica Helton (Nevada) joined Dine with 11 points and dished out four assists.
"It was good to get Emily and Jessica going from three," said Steinkamp. "We need to find ways to get back to having more than three ladies in double figures."
Central returns to the court Wednesday night with an Iowa Conference women's-men's doubleheader with Simpson College at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium with the women beginning at 6 p.m. A video webcast and live stats will be available at athletics.central.edu.
