PELLA — The Central College baseball team dropped its final home game of the season to Wartburg College 15-0 in seven innings Monday afternoon.
Central (18-19 overall, 10-11 Iowa Conference) mustarded only two hits against Wartburg (26-10 overall, 17-3 Iowa Conference).
"We didn't play well in any phase of the game today," said coach
Matt Schirm.
Senior outfielder
Seth Griffiths (Ottumwa) and senior second baseman
Noah Stochl (New Hampton) collected the lone hits.
Seniors
Michael Reuter (Monticello),
Zach Brown (Cedar Rapids, Xavier HS) and
Jacob Hirst (Davenport, Assumption HS) started in their final home game. Senior
Blake Judkins (Marshalltown) was also honored Monday for Senior Day.
Despite the loss, the Dutch clinched a spot in the six-team Iowa Conference tournament due to a Loras College loss Sunday. The league tourney is May 11-13 at Cedar Rapids.
"Hopefully we can get some momentum this weekend and use that to propel us into the conference tournament," said Schirm. "One of our goals was to get into the conference tournament and now that we have done that we feel like we've given ourselves a chance to win the tournament. I think we have the pitching depth to make a run at the title."
Central finishes conference play at Simpson College with a three-game series beginning with a single game at 6 p.m. Friday and a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
