ST. LOUIS, MO. — Central College junior setter
Chapel Carter (Colorado Springs, Colo., Coronado HS) was named to the all-tournament team at the Active Ankle Invitational Saturday after combining for 26 assists in two matches.
A loaded-tournament field, Central dropped its opening match to Thomas More College (Ky.) 25-21, 25-16, 25-17 and later fell to nationally-ranked Washington-St. Louis University (Mo.) 25-14, 25-15, 25-10. Tournament host Wash-U is ranked 21st in the country and Thomas More is on a 17-match winning streak.
"We are still looking for the right way to push this group past their comfort zone," said coach
Jeanne Czipri. "We had nothing to lose today and we still played tight."
Freshman defensive specialist
DaLana Kron (West Branch) had 16 digs on the day to lead the Dutch.
Central heads to Storm Lake Tuesday night for a 7:30 match against Buena Vista University. Buena Vista enters the contest coming off a five-set upset victory over a previously one-loss University of Dubuque team. The Dutch won last year's matchup 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-23 in Pella.
