ST. BONIFACIUS, MINN. — In a 2-0 victory over Bethany Lutheran College, the Central College women's soccer team ran its shutout streak to three consecutive games Sunday.
The Dutch (3-1-1) offensive attack was bolstered by senior captain Kayla Sunvold's (Runnells, Southeast Polk HS) two-goal outing.
"She scored two peaches of goals," coach Mike Kobylinski said. "The second goal came off of a corner kick, which is something we've been practicing a lot. She placed it perfectly for a gorgeous goal. I was very happy to see her have a great day."
Both of Sunvold's goals came off assists from midfielder Olivia Denham (sophomore, Bondurant, Bondurant-Farrar HS).
"Olivia had a great weekend," Kobylinski said. "She's steadily giving us great offensive output."
Through the team's first five games, Central has racked up 16 goals.
"We're pretty potent in our attack this year," Kobylinski said. "If we keep that going these next few weeks, it'll really help us during the conference season."
Central's defense stymied the Vikings offense, allowing just two shots all night. Goalkeeper Savana Robinson (senior, Des Moines, Hoover HS) got the win, going 72 minutes after getting the start.
"It was nice to have Savana get a shutout," Kobylinski said. "I was happy with her performance."
Not only was it the third straight clean sheet for Central, but the Dutch also ran their shutout streak to 373 minutes, not having allowed a goal since the Albion match last Sunday.
A busy week of competition kicks off Tuesday with a home match against Mount Mercy at 5 p.m.
