ST. BONIFACIUS, MINN. — Putting an offensive clinic against Crown College (Minn.), the Central College women's soccer team eased to a 9-0 victory Saturday.
The Dutch (2-1-1) bombarded the Storm (0-3-1) goalies all match long, firing off 75 shots and getting 41 of those shots on frame, both school records. Central's defense prevented Crown from taking a shot, also a school record.
The margin of victory helped Central use 24 players in the match, 16 of whom fired off at least one shot.
"It was great to get everyone in the match," coach Mike Kobylinski said. "All of the players contributed today. They showed us some good things that we can build on for the future."
Junior Kallie Holte (Kirksville, Mo.)spearheaded the offensive barrage, scoring three goals and assisting on two other scores.
"Kallie was absolutely amazing today," Kobylinski said.
Freshmen Baylee Kivett (Gilman, Grinnell HS) and Erin Manion (Delafield, Wis. Kettle Moraine HS) got their first collegiate goals in the victory.
"Baylee had a nice ball in from Felicia Roppe (junior, Council Bluffs, St. Albert HS)," Kobylinski said. "She was back post and headed it in. Erin took a nice cross from Olivia Stoops (Morton, Ill.) I thought Erin played a great game today, too."
Stoops also had a goal in the game.
"She was a difference-maker off the bench," Kobylinski said.
Midfielder Mikaela Erickson (freshman, Spring Lake, Mich., Western Michigan Christian HS)assisted on Stoops' goal and continues to impress her coach early this season.
"Mikaela had another solid game," Kobylinski said. "She's really turning into quite the player."
The rest of the scoring was rounded out by midfielders Olivia Denham (sophomore, Bondurant, Bondurant-Farrar HS), who scored twice, and Hannah Resusner (sophomore, Lawrence, Kan., Free State HS).
The second game of Central's Minnesota road trip takes place tomorrow against Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) at 5 p.m in St. Bonifacius. The game was previously moved from Mankato due to heavy rain in the last week.
