Why Central?

I actually chose Central a week before graduation my senior year. I came for a visit and immediately loved the atmosphere and sense of community on campus. I knew Central was a place I could best improve as a learner, as a baseball player, and as a person.

Favorite professor and why?

I don't think I can choose just one. There is a definite tie for first between Jason Surian and Julianne Taylor. Those two make learning more fun than any teachers or professors I have ever had. They also will drop everything at any time if any of us need help in or out of the classroom.

In your iPod?

My iPod has a mix of everything from country to rap. The most common song I have blasted on the speakers is and always will be Delirious by Steve Aoki and Kid Ink.

You're majoring in elementary education because?

I am majoring in elementary education because I grew up in a family of educators and have developed a passion for motivating people and teaching. Working with young people has been something I have always enjoyed, and seeing them grow through hard work in education is very rewarding. Education is also a great way to get into coaching, which is something I plan to do as well.

What do you always refuse to share?

I rarely share my food. If I let you have any of my food, we have a pretty special relationship.

Describe the worst haircut you've ever had-

My worst haircut was given to me when I was a Junior in high school. I went to get my hair trimmed up for prom and the guy came close to buzzing the sides of my head, while leaving the top of my head and bangs uncut. I had to go to another place to get it fixed twice before I could go out in public with it.

What was your dream job growing up?

Like many boys, my dream job was to be a professional athlete. I wanted to be a baseball player. I also grew up wanting to be a college baseball coach.

If you could time travel would you go to the past or future?

I would go to the past before computers and cell phones, just to see what life was like before everything revolved around technology.

Favorite Central College tradition?

My favorite Central College tradition is the Lemming Race. The baseball team uses that day to bring everyone on the roster together freshman through seniors. That is the big day we begin to get close as a team. Some of my most memorable moments at Central have come from Lemming Race day.

Describe your perfect pizza-

George's. If it's from George's, it's the perfect pizza.

Favorite TV show-

Shameless

The one thing people do not know about Coach Schirm-

One thing people do not know about Coach Schirm is that he is a junk food bandit. He comes in for bed checks and always finds a way to snag someone's ice cream or M&M's from the room.

Why do you love Central baseball?

I love Central Baseball because we are a family. Everyday I get to show up to whatever team activity we may be having and know that everyone there has my back and I have all of theirs. The team culture is top notch.

"Ten years from now I'll..."

Ten years from now I'll either be coaching college baseball somewhere or teaching and coaching high school ball. Family? We'll see.

Bucket List:

See every major league stadium
Listen to Coach Schirm sing Hero by Enrique Iglesias
Visit Santorini, Greece
Spend one Karate class with Sensei Trevor Kimm, the blackbelt legend.
