Tommy Morlan
Tiffin, Iowa
Class of 2026
Why did you choose Central?
I chose Central because of the tight-knit community and the education department. Having the ability to be so close to everyone around me and being able to really get to know my professors was very important. Also, being able to be a part of the best education program in the state was a no-brainer, it doesn’t get much better than Central.
Favorite professor and why?
Dr. Insko, the way he teaches his classes is a little bit different than most others. He allows for a bit more creative freedom and teaches math concepts in less traditional ways.
You’re majoring in math and secondary education because?
I’ve always wanted to be a math teacher and having this major will allow me to do this in the future.
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
I am also a math and writing tutor here on campus. I also work at Jaarsma Bakery.
Who are your go-to musical artists?
Kendrick Lamar, Glorilla, and Mac Miller
How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?
Being on this team has allowed me to create relationships that I will carry with me for all of my life. Some of my best friends I met through this team and being with these guys have created some of the best memories of my life so far.
Most important part of your pre-meet routine?
Two days before a meet I drive out to Pancheros and get bowl with double rice and steak. This starts the process of me getting my mind right and ready for meet days.
Who is your hero/inspiration?
My hero/inspiration is my mom. She shows me every day how to work through any problems that may come up in life. She has been the best role model for my entire life and has truly pushed me to always be the best person I can possibly be.
If you received a salary to follow whatever passion you wanted to, what would you do?
I’d be a professional scout, either baseball or football, and be able to travel the world and watch sports every day. I’d be able to watch sports and evaluate talent all day.
Teammate you’d bring with you to win the Amazing Race?
Grant Miller. He’s fast, smart, and I think together we would be able to figure out all the challenges. The two of us would complement each other’s skillsets.
Favorite TV Show
Brooklyn-99, I’ve watched at least 20+ times.
What’s it like to compete for Coach Sturman?
It’s great, he knows how to get the best out of all of us and helps us become the best versions of ourselves.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of the Central men’s track and field team?
Being around these people, the people on this team are some of the greatest people I’ve ever met and am so happy that I am able to compete every week with each and every one of them.
What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
Hopefully I am teaching high school math and a head football coach along with coaching other sports like baseball and track. It’s been my dream to be a head football coach for a long time.
