Why did you choose Central?
I chose Central because it has a strong biochemistry program that helps develop students into strong candidates for graduate programs.
Favorite professor and why?
My favorite professor is Dr. Dunne because he is very good at finding a way to explain complex concepts. He is also my advisor and has been extremely helpful and supportive while helping me with plan for graduate school. He helps work through problems and is always willing to listen and try to come up with a solution.
You’re majoring in biochemistry because?Â
I plan to go on to dental school after graduating. Entering into freshman year, I had a genuine interest in both biology and chemistry. This major was a great way to take all of the prerequisite classes for dental school while taking extra courses that were both challenging and interesting.
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
Besides playing on the tennis team, I am a member of Student Senate, president of Central Health Professions Club, and member of TMK Programming board.
Who are your go-to musical artists?
My top artists right now are Zach Bryan, Noah Kahan, and Dylan Gossett.
How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?
It has been amazing to be able to continue being active and involved with a sport I have been playing for the past 7 years. It has also taught me to improve my time management skills to successfully balance a heavy workload with busy fall and spring tennis seasons. Being a captain has been amazing as well and has taught me important lessons in leadership.
Best restaurant in the Des Moines area?
I really like Blue Agave in Waukee. They have lots of different street tacos and everything has been great.
Favorite sport to play besides tennis?
I love playing volleyball, especially sand. I played throughout high school and love the opportunity to get together with friends to play for fun.
Who is your hero/inspiration?
My inspiration is definitely my mom. She is extremely hard working, smart, and caring. She has so many admirable qualities and has such a positive impact on everyone around her. I strive to be like her in every aspect of life.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would love to visit Greece. The towns look beautiful, and I think it would be an amazing experience.
Favorite TV Show
My favorite tv show would have to be Criminal Minds. I always circle back to watching it after starting other shows.
What’s it like to play for Coach Ferrell?
Coach Ferrell is someone who cares a lot about all of his players and wants everyone to have a positive experience. He tends to keep practices in a light mood while still finding a way to be productive. Overall Coach Ferrell puts all of his attention and effort into the team, and it definitely shows during every season.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of the Central women’s tennis team?
My favorite part of being on the tennis team is being able to make friends with people involved in many different aspects of campus. We have people participating in many different groups on campus, and it makes it much easier to find a familiar face all across campus and be more involved in activities outside of my own classes.
What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
I hope to be practicing in my own dental clinic in 10 years. It is my biggest goal to go to dental school and work in the field of dentistry.
Favorite food from Central Market
My favorite food at the Central Market is the BBQ pulled pork.
Bucket list
Some things on my bucket list are to visit Europe, swim with sharks, and see the northern lights!
