Allison Van Gorp
Pella, Iowa
Class of 2025
Why did you choose Central?
I chose Central because I wanted to play basketball close to home and my family!
Favorite professor and why?
My favorite professor would be Dr. Sugar Fox. Her classes are always engaging, and I have learned a lot through her stories about everything she has done.
You’re majoring in Kinesiology because?
I love to move and be active, so naturally a career in this field will suit me well.
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
Nothing really, I stay busy between basketball and track!
Who are your go-to musical artists?
Taylor Swift and Pitbull
How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?
It has allowed me to create some great memories playing sports I love with some of my best friends. I also have gained an appreciation for how much my family, friends, coaches, and professors support me.
What is your favorite place to eat in Pella?
Oriental Express, the crab rangoons are my favorite food in town!
If you had to perform a karaoke song, what would you pick?
Love Story by Taylor Swift or Timber by Pitbull are my go-to’s.
What’s your most embarrassing basketball moment?
It is difficult to pick just one, but one time during a home game a basketball was “wedgied” between the backboard and the hoop. The referee threw me the ball, as I was standing under the hoop, to throw at the stuck ball to break it free. Let’s just say I missed the ball multiple times in a row and I had to call back up.
Favorite professional basketball team or player?
N/A
Favorite TV Show
Little House on the Prairie and Hawaii Five-O.
What’s it like to play for Coach Weiland?
It is always fun and competitive! He has us play at a fast high pace which allows us girls to play free. He also has a great amount of confidence in us, so we always have the green light to try new things on the court.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central’s women’s basketball team?
All of the teammates and friends I have made over the last couple of years. We have had a lot of fun and made some great memories, even on long road trips.
What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
I hope to have a family of my own, with a couple of basketball loving kids! I would also like to spend my days baking, sewing and gardening.
