Why did you choose Central?
I first looked at Central because my Mom went here, but after taking the time to look into Central’s Education Department and Cross Country team, I knew it was going to be a great fit for me. Not long after my overnight visit with the team, I texted Coach Dunham to commit.
Favorite professor and why?
I have truly enjoyed having classes with and getting to know all of the professors in the Math Department, so I don’t think I could choose between them. From the Education Department though, I have worked most closely with Dr. McAninch, and she has really helped shape my teaching.
You’re majoring in Secondary Math Education because?
I have had a lot of wonderful teachers in my life that have impacted me and helped shape me into who I am today, and I want to be that for the next generation of learners. I know that math isn’t everyone’s favorite subject, but if I can help my students grow as people (and maybe even have a little fun in my class), I’ll be happy.
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
Outside of the Cross Country and Track teams, I am a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), a part of the Central Teacher Academy (CTA), and a SI and grader for the Math Department.
Who are your go-to musical artists?
My current favorites are Noah Kahan, Reneé Rapp, and Harry Styles. I have had “Stick Season” on repeat for longer than I should admit.
How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?
Since I started running in 7th grade, it has quickly become a part of who I am. While being a student-athlete can be chaotic at times, it has given me so many incredible friendships and memories.
What is the longest distance run you’ve ever gone on?
As of right now, the longest distance I have run is a half-marathon (13.1 miles). After I graduate, I will definitely be doing a full marathon, probably multiple.
What are your best and worst Halloween costumes ever?
When I was really little, I loved ladybugs, so I would say that was my best. My worst Halloween costume would probably be the basic princess just because it is so overdone.
What was your dream job as a kid?
In fourth or fifth grade, I really wanted to be an astronaut and be one of the first people to step foot on Mars. Then I learned that they had already picked the Mars team, and that dream quickly faded. In the back of my head though, I have always wanted to be a teacher.
What is your greatest personal achievement to date and how has it shaped you?
I wouldn’t call it an achievement, but something recently that has shaped who I am is being a Tutor Counselor for Upward Bound over the summer. Being a future educator, I am always looking for ways to get involved with students, and this past summer really shaped my teaching philosophy and how I want to interact with all people I meet in life.
Favorite TV Show
I’m really bad at binge-watching TV shows, so I can’t watch much during the school year. One of my all-time favorite classics though is Friends.
What’s it like to compete for Coach Dunham?
It had been an incredible experience to compete for Coach Dunham. He has really taken the time to get to know me outside of running and build a relationship with me. In my desire to continuously improve, I can be very critical of myself at times, and Coach Dunham is someone that helps to support me and remind me why I love to run. He also knows how to throw a little fun in there! Layken, Lindsey, Hailey, and I are still awaiting our basketball game rematch against him and his kids.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central track and field?
Since day one on campus, the girls on this team have quickly become my best friends. From being stuck in quarantine together the first week of classes freshman year to crazy “adventure runs” and long runs, I know these girls got my back. I wouldn’t trade anything for my squad.
What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
In 10 years, I hope to be teaching upper-level math and coaching in a good school district, spending my summers traveling, exploring, and running (of course).
Favorite food from Central Market
I love the cook-to-order pancakes! I am a big breakfast person.
Bucket list
Travel literally anywhere and everywhere, run the Boston Marathon, have a pet husky
