Brenden Mudd
Greenwood Village, Colo.
Class of 2023

Why did you chose Central?

I chose Central because I was recruited to play baseball here, I’m originally from Colorado so to come to a school so far away from home has been hard.  But knowing that academics were such an important factor here and knowing that I could continue my career in baseball made it an easy choice.

Favorite professor and why?

Mark Johnson and Stephen Fyfe are my 2 favorite professors.  They have both helped me so much throughout my time at Central.  They have been so kind and have always encouraged me to challenge myself.  Its impossible to just pick one of them, they have both played such a large part in me even being an information systems major.  I struggled sophomore year and really considered changing my major but they encouraged me to stick with it and it was a great decision.

You’re majoring in Information Systems because?

I’m majoring in Information Systems because I wanted to also get some experience in other disciplines.  Information Systems is amazing because we are required to take accounting classes, business, and economics classes alongside the computing courses.

Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?

I am also involved in the Rocket League Club.

Who are your go-to musical artists?

My favorite artists are J.Cole, Five Finger Death Punch, and Linkin Park.

How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?

Playing a sport has forever changed my life.  The work ethic and time management that it has taught me will stick with me for the rest of my life.  I am also forever grateful for the relationships I have developed.  The friends that I have met here are one of the biggest reasons I have continued to play baseball and knowing that I will have these guys with me the rest of my life is an amazing feeling.

Favorite professional team outside of Colorado?

My friends and I joke that I am an honorary St. Louis Cardinals fan.  They are all huge cards fans and a few years ago my favorite team, the Colorado Rockies, traded my favorite player to the Cardinals.  The Rockies aren’t a very competitive baseball team at the moment so its fun to watch the Cardinals and watch a team actually make it to the playoffs.

Best place to go skiing/snowboarding in Colorado?

Our favorite place to go snowboarding in Colorado is Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge.  They get a lot of good powder and if you get there early enough, you’ll have time to get a few good runs in before the crowds get there and the lift lines get crazy long.

If you could bring back one fashion trend or old slang, what would it be?

Mullets.  I had a mullet freshman year and I think that they are the epitome of style.  If I didn’t have to look professional for job interviews I would have grown one out again for this year.

Teammate who thinks they could be a catcher but definitely could not.

Sam Staley.  Without a doubt.  We joke all the time about making him put on some gear and letting me pitch to him.  Over the years here I’ve spent a lot of time catching him and I think that there is a lot going on behind the plate that they don’t think about.  It would be hilarious to watch though.

Favorite TV Show

Drive to Survive on Netflix.  It’s a docu-series about Formula 1 and the previous season. It got me into Formula 1 and now a few of my friends and I get up on Sundays and watch the races of the current season.

What’s it like to play for Coach Klunder?

Playing for Coach Klunder has been eye opening.  He expects a lot out of us, he always pushes us to be the best on and off the field and to learn from every opportunity possible.  But my favorite part is he takes amazing care of the catchers.  Being a catcher means that you miss out on swings and at bats during practice, and for years that was just part of the job.  But Coach Klunder works very hard to make sure we all get our swings in and get the same amount as everyone else.  He goes to bat for us all the time.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central baseball?

My favorite part about being in Central Baseball is just being in the dugout with all the guys.  When we’re all being loud and there is a ton of energy and we’re all having fun and winning, there is nothing like it.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

10 years from now I hope to be back in Colorado, working in Cybersecurity and being able to see my friends once every few months.  I’d have a few nice cars in the garage and I’ll live close to my family so I can see them often.

Favorite food from Central Market

Sweet Chili Quesadilla
