Solomon Mamola
Urbandale, Iowa
Class of 2024

Why did you choose Central?

I chose Central because as soon as I came to the soccer camp I felt welcomed by not only the coaches but also the upperclassmen on the team.  I loved the environment that was in the team and the style of play definitely helped my college decision.

Favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor is Professor Shuger Fox because I have found her classes very interesting and she has been willing to help me with things outside of the classroom such as my goals for nutrition and goals in weight lifting and bodybuilding.  She helped me connect with former students that do coaching and other things to aid me in that journey.

You’re majoring in kinesiology because?

I am majoring in kinesiology because I love the fitness environment and I love the idea of that being my long term job in the future.  I started with physical therapy in mind and have now settled on personal training and nutrition.

Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?

I am involved in FCA as well as a couple small group bible studies.  They have helped me tremendously in surrounding myself with people that can help and aid me with any issues I deal with.

Who are your go-to musical artists?

At the moment I would say my go-to artists are Giveon, Post Malone, Drake, and Brent Faiyaz.

How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?

Attending Central to play soccer has been one of the best decisions I have made.  Out of high school I was pretty set on playing in college and I am glad I got recruited to play at Central.  It has helped me make so many special friendships that will last long past college.  The brotherhood that the team has created is very special.

How did your parents choose the name Solomon?

It is actually my mom's maiden name which is pretty cool.  Some of my cousins have the last name “Solomon” which can get weird for some people.

What is the weirdest scar you have and how did  you get it?

Really only have one scar and it’s from a Razor scooter to the ankle.

Teammate you’d love to see go on The Bachelor

I would love to see Jack Cannon on the Bachelor.  I think that would be absolutely comedy to watch.

Favorite TV Show

I don’t watch much TV at the moment, but when I turn Netflix on it is either a documentary, Blacklist, or Breaking Bad.

What’s it like to play for Coach Laidlaw?

Playing for Coach Laidlaw is great. He really values me as a player and is honest in his feedback every time I talk with him. He has been very patient with me as I have spent a good chunk of time with injuries and he is careful not to rush me back. You can really he cares about you past just the soccer part of it.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central Men’s Soccer?

My favorite part of being a part of the soccer team is the friendships I have made.  Eating meals and hanging in the rooms will never get old and it’s endless jokes.  The guys are great to be around.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

10 years from now I hope to be running an online fitness coaching business, have a strong social media presence, and be a personal trainer and nutritionist.  I would love to travel for my job and settle down somewhere eventually.  Little shoutout to my fitness account on Instagram @solomon.lifestyle

Favorite food from Central Market

My favorite food is probably the CTO Quesadillas. Nothing can beat those.

Bucket list

My bucket list consists of a lot of travel.  I want to see so many places outside of the US.  I would love to own an exotic animal at some point like a monkey or something. Finally, I would love to write music for someone.  It is something I enjoy doing in my spare time and I think it would be awesome to write for someone.
