Chicago, Ill.
Class of 2022

Why did you chose Central?

I chose Central because it just felt right. The facilities were great, the coaching staff on the baseball team was welcoming, and it had an academic program that I was interested in.

Favorite professor and why?

I would say that my favorite professor is Dr. Shuger Fox. She’s super personable, full of energy, and fun to learn from. She also challenged me during my time in her classes. Pretty GOATED.

You’re majoring in exercise science because?

I am no longer majoring in anything since I’m an old man, but I majored in exercise science. I chose this because I want to become a physical therapist after being inspired by the kindness offered to me by the PTs that helped me get through tearing my labrum. Pay it forward baby.

Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?

On campus, I’m also involved in Central’s work study program. I get to work in the athletic office with the best coaching staff in the conference, learn a bit about what it means to be a leader, and make a little bit of money while doing it.

Who are your go-to musical artists?

Ye and Drake, two guys who produce hit after hit. They’ll get you in your feelings but also jacked before a game; it’s hard to go wrong with either.

How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?

I think the impact that playing baseball at Central has had on me can hardly be put into words. The relationships that I will have for the rest of my life because of baseball are some of the most important things to me. Also, the lessons that I have learned from being a part of a team where I have been placed in leadership roles, interacted with dudes from all over the country, and labored through late night after late night are some of the most important lessons a guy can learn.

Best pizza in Chicago comes from where?

Best pizza in Chicago comes from Easy Street on the corner of Central and Grace. I specifically get the deep dish pepperoni.

Power rank the Chicago professional sports teams

1 Cubs
2 Bulls (they’re back)
3 Blackhawks
4 Sky
5 Dogs
6 White Sox
7 Fire
8 Bears (go Pack)

Why did you decide to take a fifth year?

I decided to take a fifth year because I just wasn’t ready to hang the cleats up. Also, I owed Coach Carey a favor for his time helping elevate me as a player when he was a player here at Central. I had to come back and help out. Plus passing up on the opportunity to learn from a guy who is going to be one of the best in the country someday, stay tuned, would be a terrible move.

If there was a movie about your life, who would you want to play you?

That’s pretty tough honestly. I’d like for it to be someone hype like Johnny Depp, but realistically I’ll probably get like Adam Sandler.

Favorite TV Show

The Office, it’s timeless.

What’s it like to play for Coach Klunder?

Playing for Coach Klunder is a blast. He’s got a killer attitude and serious faith in his players. He’s an incredible motivator and I’m very excited to see how he’ll continue to elevate Central College baseball as a whole in both the near and far future.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of the baseball team at Central College?

My favorite part about being on the Central College baseball team is getting the opportunity to compete for 50 of your best friends and for something that is a lot bigger than you as an individual.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

In 10 years, I’d like to be living in Chicago, and operating as a physical therapist working with kids recovering from injuries so that they can keep their athletic careers going.

Favorite food from Central Market

I’m not necessarily allowed to be there on my own these days, but thanks to the baseball boys' excessive use of guest passes I still get to enjoy my favorite, burger bar. Additionally, if anyone is looking for someone to enjoy a meal with and is willing to use a guest pass or an extra swipe email me at wenzelm1@central.edu. I promise to have a great conversation with you and take interest in your hobbies.

Bucket list

Finish my green pod project, stop being a coward and hit 90 mph, beat Quinn Miller at ping pong, participate in a second senior day, tan evenly throughout a summer, and skydiving.
