Bronwyn Metcalf
Pella, Iowa
Class of 2022
Why did you choose Central?
The opportunity to play a sport that I loved but also compete at a collegiate level has given me the guidance and self-development I will need to navigate my future career. I knew the science program would prepare me for graduate school while the liberal arts education would help prepare me for life by giving me a well-rounded education. But honestly, because I’m from Pella, I can see my two wiener dogs whenever I want to, which is a big bonus.
Favorite professor and why?
Dr. Bradfield is a once in a lifetime connection. Her knowledge paired with the care she has for students is wonderful.
You’re majoring in biochemistry because?
I am pursuing a degree after Central and I felt biochemistry best matched my interests and allowed me to take the correct prerequisites for grad school.
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
Student senate has been a great experience and a way to build relationships while fine tuning leadership skills that will be applicable in the workforce. I also conduct organic chemistry research under Dr. Wackerly which has taught me a great deal regarding the research field.

Bryce Vine, Chris Stapleton, Bad Suns and NEEDTOBREATHE
How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?

Maddie Hartley - she’s my doubles partner and if I’m going out, she’s going out with me.
If every time you entered a room a theme song played, what would the song be?
I’m in a Hurry (And Don't Know Why) by Alabama is a good way to describe me.

Thankfully, straight leg jeans and oversized tops are making a comeback!

What’s it like to play for Coach Ferrell?
You never know what practice is going to look like. However, the life and energy he brings to practice everyday encourages us to work hard no matter the rigor of the practice.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central women’s tennis?
Competing at a collegiate level for a sport I love while sharing this passion with my teammates is the best part - it makes the long drives, hot practices and matches worth it.

10 years from now, I hope to be a practicing physician assistant who specializes in either surgery or pediatrics at a small or regional hospital in the Midwest.
