Rayanne Dally
Des Moines, Iowa
Class of 2022
Why did you chose Central?
I wanted to go to a college that would do more than just give me a degree. Being a part of a smaller community where you are treated as an individual has helped me develop as a person and I am so thankful for the professors and friends that have helped me along my journey.
Favorite professor and why?
My favorite professor would probably be Mark Johnson. He’s my academic advisor and has really challenged my thinking in every class that I’ve taken with him.
You’re majoring in computer science because?
I’ve always been fascinated by technology and taking courses on it has solidified my interest that I want to do this as a career. My minor in sociology was declared after taking an introductory course to sociology where I discovered that it was also something I loved to learn about.
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
I was involved in the Computer Science club for a short period of time but other than that I spend a lot of time researching things I didn’t know about.
Who are your go-to musical artists?
Recently I saw In the Heights (the movie) so I’m a bit obsessed with listening to the music Lin Manuel Miranda has produced.
How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?
It has taught me a lot about dedication, responsibility, and perseverance. After developing asthma and learning my fitness would forever be hindered I had to learn to find joys in just having the opportunity to run at the collegiate level.
If you could be an actor/character on any show or movie, what show or movie would it be and why?
A companion to the Doctor in Doctor Who, being able to go on crazy adventures sounds like something I would always be fine with!
What is your dream job?
My dream job would be here in Iowa close to Des Moines in IT, technology is such an important part of any company and I want to be someone who helps manage it!
How many pairs of shoes do you own?
I have two pairs of retired running shoes, two pairs of current running shoes, two pairs of future running shoes, and then actual shoes to wear outside of running. I certainly have more running shoes then not!
All-time favorite gift you’ve been given?
My first running watch, a Forerunner 35. Once I finally had a watch to track my runs I became a lot more invested in the sport
Favorite TV Show
I would say Bojack Horseman or The Good Place
What’s it like to play for Coach Dunham?
It’s been challenging (developing asthma during sophomore year was certainly a struggle) but I would say this has helped me grow as a person.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central cross country?
Being able to travel to new places to race. It’s exhilarating running in a town where you’ve never personally been to before.
What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
Doing things I love: running, hanging out with animals, and having a fulfilling job.
Favorite food from Central Market
French silk pie, best. dessert. ever.
Bucket list
Run a half marathon (and maybe eventually a full?)
Get a large dog
Being able to own an entire aviary of parrots because I love them!
