Why did you choose Central?

I chose Central because I knew I wanted a smaller atmosphere where I would be able to connect and know all of my peers and teachers on a first name basis. I also knew by coming to Central I would be able to continue to play golf for a team that is committed to success both in and out of the classroom. Central was also one of the first few places to accept me, and after my initial visit here I knew there was a great chance that this was the school to me to further my education and golf career at.Also having my sister at Simpson golfing I knew it would be a fun way to keep our competitive nature and to have fun battling with her on which school is better and why!

Favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor would be John Roslien hands down. John is not only a professor but a mentor to me. He is a guy whose door is always open, and I can go in and talk to him about anything. It is not unusual for us to end up talking about all thing’s life and sports for hours before one of us realizes we have something else we should be doing. John is definitely a person who I know I will speak with outside of college and to me that is a special relationship to have with your professors, to know you will always have a home here in Pella and an open door and invitation to talk or catch up wherever and whenever. I also could not answer this question without giving credit to Katelin Valster. Without the help of her and John I do not know if I would be where I am today as a senior at Central about to graduate. The hours these two have taken to help me formulate a schedule that allowed me to golf both in the spring and fall, while traveling abroad, and completing all the coursework needed for my majors was by no means an easy task. So, to them I owe a big thank you for all their help and the stress and years I have probably taken off of their lives.

You’re majoring in Exercise Science because?

I am graduating in May with a major in Exercise Science and Minor in Business with a Pre-Health endorsement. I came into Central wanting to do something with sports management, and then shifted to nursing. This led me to pick up all the pre health and biology classes, to now thinking about going into medical sales. Having the business and health side of this will make this field an exciting experience and I look forward to my work after graduation.

Besides athletics, what else are you involved in campus?

Besides golf I am a member of Central’s FCA group, as well as a member of SAAC.

Who are your go-to musical artists?

I have never really been one to listen to a lot of music, so this question is tough. During summertime I enjoy driving around with the windows down listening to country music, however when working out I like to listen to some throw back 80s music to get my blood pumping.

How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?

Being able to continue playing the sport I grew up playing is something I will never take for granted. Many people and kids dream of this opportunity growing up, and I did too. However, most dream of making it to the big leagues which is a tough thing to accomplish and being at Central and the connections I have made with teachers, peers, and the town of Pella is an experience far more meaningful to me than going to a bigger school and not having the support I have received at Central. This campus, and town is so unique and special that I am so glad I have had the opportunity to call it home and know I will always be welcomed back with open arms, and that is something that you don’t dream of as a kid, but once you realize what you have it truly is the most important and my favorite part about the Pella community.

Any favorite karaoke songs?

Oh man, that’s tough. Like I mentioned my music is pretty sporadic and so would be my karaoke songs. Me and my buddies often times do find ourselves at the bowling alley doing karaoke on Saturday nights, sorry for those who have witnessed this. We often sing classics songs like Sweet Caroline, Dirt Road Anthem, Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue and many many more songs. There’s no telling what we will sing until we find ourselves on stage with the microphone.

Favorite course you've ever played and the course you desperately want to play

Central has given us golfers many opportunities to play fun courses which is really unique to this school, I think. We have been able to get on Whistling Straits, PGA National, Payne’s Valley to name a few. All of which are professional courses that would be tough to get on as an average person. To me however I am most excited to go on the Scotland trip in the summer. Scotland has a strong history for golf, and to any golfer is a bucket list item so to be able to do this will be a once in a lifetime experience.

Toughest hole at Bos Landen

Bos in itself is a tough course, and it doesn’t seem to get any easier the more I play it. To me hole number four would be my toughest hole as I can’t even count the number of balls I have lost on that hole over the years. However there have been many good memories on this course, and some shots hit that I never would have expected myself to have. I still find myself watching myself birdie the hardest handicapped hole in our home tournament and just laughing because it was so lucky. I think that’s the best part of Bos is that it is so tough and unique, yet it provides opportunities to hit good golf shots, or wild shots if you’re in trouble, you just never know what to expect and every day the course is played differently.

Who do you admire the most?

I have been blessed to be surrounded by tons of influential people in my life, but most admired would be my close family. My parents were willing to allow me to do whatever my wild self-dreamed growing up and were supportive in letting me go try new things. My grandparents are also so supportive and loving that I am excited to grow up and be successful and live a life they have all shown me and provided me with. Outside of family and back to golf Arnold Palmer was always a fun guy to watch highlights on growing up. I have tons of his collectibles and shoes of his back home sitting on my shelves in my room.

Favorite TV Show

I really don’t watch a lot of tv I guess normally you can find it on ESPN or other sports channels. If I had to name a favorite it would be game shows, I love to watch Price is Right at 10, and Let’s make a Deal at 2, as well as Wheel of Fortune at 6. These shows sometimes impact my schedule as I do try to schedule around a 10 o clock and a 2 o clock class, just don’t tell my advisors or professors who had me at these hours. Other than that, the guys and I will often watch trivia on YouTube or fall down a rabbit whole and watch crazy places, homes, planes, and much more on YouTube.

What’s it like to compete for Coach Blasi?

Playing for Coach Blasi has been a good experience. Blasi came in after I was already here which may have made for a tougher transition; however, he has been easy to get along with. He came in from a Division 1 school and with a love of golf course and maintenance which has been so fun to see. He got here and went right to work on improving our driving range and now we have one of the best ranges in D3 golf, he also is a major reason we have had the experiences on the course we have had which is so cool. He is always open, and I can say exactly how I feel around him, and he will be understanding about it which is kudos to him. Coach really is an easy-going man who loves golf, and success and makes sure we combine these on the course and in the classroom.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central golf?

My favorite part about being a teammate is the support the guys all have for each other. I have had many teammates here and all have made a huge impact on me today and my experiences as a golfer. It’s far more than just golf or your sport though when you’re an athlete at Central. All the athletes here know each other and look out for one another. There is so much support from team to team that it is almost like we are one big team together and that is something I will cherish forever.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

10 years from now I hope to be well established in the medical field. I hope to have had the opportunity to travel to various states as well as abroad. Hopefully in 10 years I will be ready to settle down somewhere that I fall in love with and start a family. I can’t wait to have little Trevor’s running around, and me taking them wherever they want for sports and so on just as my parents did for me. I am excited for what Trevor’s life looks like in 10 years, as of right now though I am really uncertain what that may be, but I am ready for it all to unfold one day at a time.

Favorite food from Central Market

Any day there is cook to order at the market it is a good day. The chicken, burgers, quesadilla, and ham and cheese are all good if you ask me. I also like the flatbreads they have, and the many options on the salad bar. Breakfast omelets and build your own sandwich also are a great start to the day. I think the market is actually pretty good even though some may not I think they all do a good at the market. Kudos to Iwan.
