Sarah Sponder
Sioux City, Iowa
Class of 2020
Why did you choose Central?
I choose Central because I felt at home when I stayed for my overnight visit. I went to a larger high school, but I knew the smaller campus size was the best fit for me. I also chose Central because of the softball program. The history and traditions that I knew prior to coming is what really caught my eye.

Favorite professor and why?
My favorite professor is a tie between Dr. Mills and Dr. Hibbard. They have both challenged me in the classroom, but the way they care for each student outside of academics is what really stands out.
You’re majoring in mathematics for secondary education because?
I am majoring in mathematics for secondary education because I love the challenge math brings, and being able to provide that challenge to students is something I would love to do for the rest of my life. I also have a passion to help others reach their goals and succeed in the classroom as well as in everyday life.
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
Outside of athletics, I was involved in SAAC (Student Athletic Advisory Council), and I worked for the A-Team (Sport Information).
Who are your go-to musical artists?
My go to right now is country, but I am the type of person who listens to just about anything. If I had to choose one artist it would be Chris Young.
What are you summer plans for 2020?
I plan to go back to Sioux City for the summer to paint houses for a few months. I am also planning on taking a trip to San Diego for a short vacation.
Who is your hero/inspiration?
My inspiration is my mom because of the strong woman she is. Throughout everything life has thrown at her, she has remained compassionate, brave, and hardworking.
Â
If you could catch any famous softball pitcher, who would it be?
Jennie Finch – I went to her camp when I was younger, and watched her pitch. It was amazing!
Â
What is your favorite throwback song?
Year 3000 – Jonas Brothers
Â
If you won a million dollars, what would you do with it?
If I won a million dollars, I would donate some of my money to various charities, but I would also use some of the money to travel the world. Seeing and experiencing different cultures would be very interesting.
Favorite TV Show
This is Us – I LOVE this show. It pulls on the heart strings weekly.
What’s it like to compete for Coach Wares?
Coach Wares has pushed me further than I ever thought possible. I have learned so much about the game and myself. He has definitely had an impact on the person I am today.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central softball?
My favorite part about being a member of Central softball is all of the memories I have made with my teammates. This program has forced me out of my comfort zone and I am forever grateful for that.
What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
10 years from now I hope to be impacting the lives of middle school students and coaching the game of softball.
