Why did you chose Central?

I came to Central as a transfer the spring semester my freshman year. I visited here and immediately felt a great sense of community and a “home away from home”.

Favorite professor and why?

I feel like I have too many professors that I have enjoyed! Overall, I think one of the things that makes Central special is that the faculty and staff truly care about the development of students inside and outside of the classroom. This semester my favorite class was Principles of Counseling with Dr. Cleveland. She challenged us as students and helped us grow as people, whether we were going into the profession or not.

Who are your go-to musical artists ?

Currently: Hozier and Taylor Swift’s newest albums are on repeat when I go for long runs. But my library is generally really heavy in music from the 60s-80s.

You’re majoring in exercise science because?

Exercise science because I enjoy the science side of the curriculum- like anatomy and physiology, but also love that wellness is integrated into all of the courses. I’m currently applying and interviewing for PT programs, and I feel that because of how the courses integrate both elements of care, that will help me be a better clinician.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

After the Regional Cross Country meet, a few of us went and got tattoos! It’s super tiny and half the time I forget I have it, but it’s the wildest thing I’ve done to date.

What 5 words your friends would use to describe you?

Five words from five of my actual friends: mom, old-souled, hard-working, leader, and kind.

If you could master one skill you don’t have right now, what would it be?

Dude, imagine if you could play the bagpipes.

What single message would you send to an advanced alien species?

I’d probably send them a homemade meme to interpret and see how advanced they actually are.

What is your hidden talent?

Ooh, not sure how good I am at it now, but I was really good at playing violin in middle and high school. Not All-State good, but good enough to duet with Preston “The Cello God” Kizer!

What’s the best advice you have ever gotten and from who?

In one of my PT interviews, I asked what set the school apart from the others. My interviewer answered, “It’s really not what makes us different because we really are more alike than unalike. You’re going to want to be somewhere where you are excited to be going to school, are happy with what you are doing, and feel like you are growing.” I loved hearing that because that is exactly how I felt about transferring, and it was a good reminder when it comes to choosing the right fit PT school for me.

Favorite TV Show

Jeopardy!

What is it like to run for Coach Dunham?

It’s really fun because Dunham gets more excited for you than you do for yourself. I think he sees how much potential we have and tries to get us to see that by encouraging us and pushing us to do better. He knows we can do so much more but understands that ultimately it’s our decision to believe what he sees in us, and then we become better athletes.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central track and field?

I really enjoy the new traditions and team vibe that Coach Sturman has brought. I feel that we’ve gotten to know people from other disciplines a lot better with this new sense of being one big team, versus all of our specialties. It’s laid back enough where we can have fun and laugh, but we also get the hard work done. It’s a great balance between what I think are the two most important aspects in sport- hard work AND play.

“Ten years from now I’ll...”

Be done with PT school, hopefully living and working Dubuque...maybe have a dog and a man. Who knows.

Favorite food from Central Market

Big fan of Steak night (purely for the A1 sauce), COQs (Cook to Order Quesadillas), and fruit pizza.

Bucket list

Graduate from PT school & get a job in Dubuque
I’m still working on the Ultimate Close at CUIFS
Probably way more things, but I’ll just take the days as they come and PR everyday.
