Class of 2020
Rosemount, Minn.
Why did you choose Central?
I knew immediately after my first visit that Central would be the perfect fit for me. I really enjoyed the time a spent with the soccer team as well as connecting with a few of the professors in the Actuarial Science program. Ultimately, Central had everything I was looking for, small class sizes, a great Actuarial Science program, and the opportunity for me to continue playing soccer.
Favorite professor and why?
One of my favorite professors at Central is Dr. Mills. Dr. Mills puts in a noticeable effort to get to know all his students not only in the classroom but also outside of the classroom. He’s helped me with the Actuarial Science major and has offered me guidance and advice while pursuing the major and studying for exams.
You’re majoring in Actuarial Science and Economics because?
I am majoring in both Actuarial Science and Economics. Math has always been one of my strengths and after taking statistics in high school my math teacher suggested I look into the major. I was really impressed with the Actuarial Science program at Central and decided it would be a great fit.
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
Besides soccer, I play intramural volleyball with a group of friends. I am also a member of the hockey club on campus. I grew up playing hockey and it’s something I really enjoy being able to continue playing at Central. I also tutor for the math and economic departments and student instruct for a calculus course.
Who are your go-to musical artists?
My favorite genre of music is definitely country music. My two go-to artists are Zac Brown Band and Old Dominion.
What did you do for work and for fun in the summer of 2019?
I had an internship in Des Moines this past summer. It was a great experience and lead to a full-time actuarial job, which I am really excited about. On the weekends, I would go up north to my family’s cabin and fish as often as I could.
Favorite professional sports team (non-soccer)
My favorite non-soccer professional team would be the Minnesota Wild. I grew up playing hockey and I still really enjoy playing in the winter at the rink in Pella.
What would you name your boat if you had one?
I would name my boat “Seamus Boatman” after one of my favorite soccer players “Seamus Coleman”.
Artist you’d pick to see in concert
I would love to see Zac Brown Band live.
Favorite TV Show
My favorite TV show is The Walking Dead.
What’s it like to play for Coach Laidlaw?
I have had a great experience playing for Coach Laidlaw. It is obvious that he really cares about all of his players and he does a great job creating a family-like feeling with everyone who plays under him.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central soccer?
During my time on the Central soccer team, I have met some of my closest friends and have created tons of memories that will last far beyond college. I think my most memorable experience was the trip that the team took to London last spring. We were able to go see some historic sights, play against some British universities, and watched some professional English soccer games.
What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
10 years from now I hope to have completed all my actuarial exams and be working as an actuary for an insurance company. I would also be interested in going back to school and working towards becoming a professor in the future.
Favorite food from Central Market
One of my favorite foods at Central Market would probably be the fruit pizza.
Bucket list
One thing on my Bucket List would be to run the Boston Marathon. I ran my first marathon last summer and really enjoyed it. I would love to eventually qualify for and run the Boston Marathon.
