Why Central?
I chose Central because I visited in the winter and loved how picture-perfect campus and Pella looked with snow and string lights and wreaths everywhere. I liked that Central had small class sizes where I would get to know my professors and get hooked up with great opportunities. I also clicked really well with the cross country team and we had a pretty big squad of runners from Dubuque come to run at Central.
Favorite professor and why?
My favorite professor is Dr. Fox! I’m not even an exercise science major, but I’ve taken classes with her just for fun. She has an amazing energy in class and has taught me so much about personal health beyond just exercising. Plus, she takes the cross country girls to paddle board yoga on the weekends and if that’s not a cool prof, I don’t know what is!
In your iPod?
I don’t even have an iPod… but I Pandora a lot of George Ezra, Johnny Cash, Dierks Bentley and Usher/Ne-Yo. Kind of clashing genres; it just depends on my mood!
You’re majoring in Psychology because?
I chose psychology because I’m really interested in human behavior and thoughts. I took a neuroscience class with Dr. Scolaro last year and your brain can do some pretty cool stuff. Studying psychology is like learning why people are the way they are and I think that’s so cool (and kind of creepy).
The best Disney movie ever made is…
I don’t know how you can pick just one? Any Disney classic that has a soundtrack you can sing along to is pretty much the greatest ever.
Any good nicknames?
Last year I was named “Dra” for short by Nick Guzman. It caught on pretty fast with the cross country boys so that’s usually what I hear from them.
If you joined the circus, what would you perform?
I’d want to be the person who gets to ride the elephants or horses around. Sounds like a pretty easy job to me!
Describe the worst job you’ve ever had
The worst job I ever had would probably be working in the Communication Office at Central… Just kidding, working in the Comm office has been one of my favorite jobs because I get paid to do something I love. And it’s a great excuse to go to all the events around campus!
If you were to audition for The Voice, what song would you chose?
If I were to audition for The Voice I’d sing a rendition of my favorite song Buy You a Drank. But I’d need to borrow the vocals from Rachel Peter because I know none of the judges would turn around for me!
Favorite TV Show
I’m a huge fan of Gossip Girl; I took a quiz online once and it said I was a Serena and my best friend Molly is obviously a Blair. We dressed up as Blair and Serena for Halloween last year actually.
The one thing people don’t about Coach Fyfe
Coach Fyfe is a super mellow guy, but when he gets worked up it’s a sight to see. He’ll jump up and down and wave his arms like he’s crazy. At conference he ran up to the whole track team jumping and waving and yelling “CASSIDY IS HAVING THE RACE OF HER LIFE” and all the sprinters and throwers were so confused where his energy came from.
Why do you love Central cross country?
I love Central cross country because running alone sucks. It’s still pretty tough with other people, but having teammates who make the hard days a little easier is something special. Having great running buddies who push you to go faster, lift harder, and add an extra mile to your long run (as if 12 miles wasn’t enough) is something I am super thankful for.
“Ten years from now I’ll...”
10 years from now I’ll be married to my cutie boyfriend and have little redheaded children running around our home. I might have a dog, but I’m actually really scared of them sooo… maybe not? Hopefully I’ll have a job that I really like and a side business in photography/videography or making cute DIY projects. Most importantly I hope I’ll be HAPPY (and maybe I’ll keep running). (;
Favorite food from Central Market
My guilty pleasure food from the market is definitely fried ravioli, even though it’s so so bad or you. But my go-to section is the vegetarian section; it’s the hidden gem and there is rarely a line!
