Sophomore
Shelbyville, Illinois
Why did you chose Central?
I chose Central because the feeling when you first step onto campus is an amazing one. There isn’t another school like it. The family atmosphere, the support, the professors, Coach Ferrell, there wasn’t another option for me. I was supposed to be at Central and I felt that as soon as I got there.
Favorite professor and why?
My favorite professor is Keith Yanner. He has been there for me and helped me with so many things that go far beyond his role as a professor. He is the type of professor you read about and wish you could have. It’s an amazing feeling knowing that your professors have your back and will do everything in their power to support you. Keith Yanner is an excellent example of everything Central promotes.
Who are your go-to musical artists?
Well this constantly changes for me. I like listening to everything and anything, right now I would say The Outfield, Mitchell Tenpenny, or Marc Cohn.
You’re majoring in political science because?
I think Politics is the most important thing to study. It’s not going away, it’s not an easy subject, and it’s in literally everything you do. You need politics to run your town, county, state, and country. That’s not going to change so why not major in it and help shape and mold it the way it should be? I’m majoring in Political Science because I can change the world with a political science degree and there’s nothing else I’d rather do.
If you could live in a book, TV show, or movie, what would it be?
If I could live in any TV show it would be The People VS. OJ Simpson. I obviously wasn’t alive during the actual trial so I feel like this would be my way of being there. The OJ case is why I wanted to go to Law School, so I think it would be fitting getting to see the law in the show.
Who was your first celebrity crush?
Brad Pitt. Oh my gosh Brad Pitt. I totally forgot about him till right now. 10/10 loved him, Mr. and Mrs. Smith was the first “bad movie” I saw and I was in awe.
Biggest pet peeve
I hate loud chewing and swallowing. It’s a problem, it makes me twitch.
Describe the worst haircut you've ever had?
I’d say in sixth grade when my mom wouldn’t take me so my dad and I snuck out when she was at work. He took me to Sports Clips, (they cut men’s hair only) so needless to say I walked out of there looking like a thirteen year old boy. The pictures have since been burned.
If you could go back in time and personally witness any event, what would it be and why?
The inauguration of President Ronald Reagan. I get goosebumps every single time I watch his Inaugural Address. This would hands down be the event I would want to be at. President Reagan was a President like no other and I wish I got to see him in action.
What are you doing this summer?
Well currently I’m studying abroad in Vienna, Austria. I don’t fly back to the US until June 30th. I plan on relaxing the rest of the summer and I am looking forward to helping Coach Ferrell with tennis camp for the third year in a row!
Favorite TV Show
Dexter, I hysterically cried when it ended. Not my greatest moment.
What’s one thing people might not know about Coach Ferrell?
How big his heart is. I have never met someone who I trust more than Coach. I have gone to him on my absolute worst days and he lets me cry, get mad, and then helps me fix the issue. I can honestly say that I don’t know where I would be without his guidance. He has helped me through things that are so far out of his coaching role it isn’t even funny, but he does it all. I could write a book about how extraordinary of a person Coach Ferrell is and how much he gives for his team. Coach Ferrell made Central a home and that’s something I will never forget.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central Tennis?
The support the team gives each other. I can say without a doubt that if I texted anyone on the team right now and asked them for help, they'd do it. I also know that if I reached out to anyone who previously played Dutch Tennis they too would offer support or help. I think this all boils down to our coaching staff and how hard Coach Ferrell, Coach Pete, and Coach Bade work to make this team a team.
“Ten years from now I’ll…”
Ten years from now I’ll hopefully be a wife and a mom. For my career, I hope to be running a campaign and working my butt off to get my candidate to office.
Favorite food from Central Market
Salad Bar, hands down.
Bucket list
My bucket list is actually being completed as we speak. I have always wanted to travel and explore the world. I wanted to get a taste of life somewhere new and different. I am currently in Austria, once the semester is over I will have been in 12 countries in four months. I will have gone to three Concentration Camps, 16 different cities, taken several planes, trains, and busses, and experienced a world that many people don’t get to see. I would say my bucket list is pretty complete.
