Central College Athletics

Susan Lyons joined the Central staff in 2020 prior to the program's inaugural season.    
    
In the program's first full season in the fall of 2021, Lyons helped the team to USA Triathlon's Collegiate National Championships in Tempe, Arizona. Central was one of six NCAA Division III programs to qualify. Lindsey Blommers became the program's first All-American by finishing 12th in her national meet debut.
    
As an athlete, Lyons has completed several sprint triathlons and has twice finished an Ironman 70.3, also known as a Half Ironman. She finished her first full Ironman 140.6 in September of 2021 in Wisconsin.. As a coach, she has received USA Triathlon Level I certification.
    
A 2000 Central graduate, Lyons is a science teacher at Pella Middle School and adjunct instructor in Central's education department. Lyons received a master's degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.She previously served as a softball assistant coach at Lynnville-Sully, Winter Springs (Fla.) and Pella Christian high schools.
