Austin Mercer joined the Central football staff as an assistant coach in 2018. He works with the cornerbacks and serves as recruiting coordinator.
    
Mercer was a two-time letterwinner for the NCAA Division III powerhouse University of Mount Union (Ohio) where he played wide receiver and safety while also competing on special teams. He was a member of the Purple Raiders 2012 national title team.

Prior to Central, Mercer spent two years as a receivers coach at Centre College (Ky.). He also spent a year working with the wide receivers at Millikin University (Ill.). Between those two stops, he worked with three all-conference wide receivers.
    
The South Charleston, Ohio native earned a degree in psychology at Mount Union.
