Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dutch women’s soccer team blanked by Bennies

Central suffers first loss of season

PELLA — The bounces and breaks all went against the Central College women's soccer team in a 3-0 loss to the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) Sunday afternoon.

The Dutch (2-1-0) peppered the net with 14 shot attempts, including nine on frame, but could never find the back of the net. They had a first half shot attempt by Finley Baker (freshman, West Chester, Ohio, Saint Ursula Academy) go off the crossbar. Lila Gwyn's (freshman, Cincinnati, Ohio, Sycamore HS) penalty kick in the second half went off the post and a late goal was disallowed because of an offsides call.

"Soccer can be a funny game," coach Mike Kobylinski said. "We had several chances in the first half but found ourselves down 1-0.

"The offsides call and hitting a post on a penalty kick are going to happen in a match sometimes. That game could have gone our way 3-0 but we lost 3-0 to a very good side. They had a few special finishes today."

Gwyn had six total shot attempts. Defender Katy Brown (fifth year, West Alton Mo., Orchard Farm HS) charged forward for three shots on goal.

The Dutch go to Edgewood University (Wis.) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

"Today was full of learning moments in a long season but we will refocus for Edgewood."
