CEDAR FALLS— A trio of freshmen on the Central College women's golf team had strong starts to their collegiate career over the weekend at the Kohawk Classic.
           
Central placed sixth of 14 teams with a two-day score of 323-325—648. Wartburg College was the team champion at 311-307—618.
           
Coach Mackenzie Biggs put freshmen Jessie Lohman (freshman, Ames) and Bella Dinelli (South Wilmington, Ill., Gardner-South Wilmington HS) in her varsity five in their Dutch debuts. Dinelli shared 38th place (82-86—168) and Lohman tied for 40 th (85-85—170) out of 80 competitors.
           
The highest-placing freshman for the Dutch was Emersyn Schultz (Ainsworth, Highland HS) who tied for 33rd (86-80—166) while playing with Central's second team.
           
"It was a great chance for them to get their feet wet, and they certainly made a splash," coach Mackenzie Biggs said. "It's nice to have some more depth on the team. Emersyn did a nice job today shooting an 80 and moving up six spots."
           
Dutch junior Allie Pfantz (State Center, West Marshall HS) tied for second, carding a 74-76—150. Chiara Bothe of Mount Mercy University won with 76-69—145.
           
"She played great and earned herself a top-three finish in a scorecard playoff," Biggs said. "She has gotten really creative around the greens and I am very excited to see what she does the rest of the season."
           
Chloe Sundet (junior, Urbandale, Waukee Northwest HS) was 28th (82-81—163) and Mickey Martens (senior, Villa Park, Ill., Willowbrook HS) was 44th (88-83—171)
           
Central travels to Waverly and Prairie Links Golf Course for the Wartburg Invitational next Saturday and Sunday.
