Dutch settle for men’s soccer draw

Central loses early lead

PELLA— Unable to hang on to a 2-0 lead, the Central College men's soccer team finished its match Saturday against the University of Wisconsin-Stout in a 2-2 tie.

Central (2-1-1) needed just six minutes to start the scoring when Lucas De la Cuba (freshman, Lima, Peru, Ankeny Centennial HS) put his head on a loose ball on the box following a long throw in by Nate Lampe to make it 1-0.

Nick DeVoss (sophomore, Lee's Summit, Mo., St. Michael HS) made it 2-0 with his goal in the 20th minute.

The Blue Devils (2-1-1) started their rally early in the second half, scoring three minutes after the halftime break to make it 2-1. They found the equalizer in the 68th minute.

The two sides traded blows for the final 22 minutes, combining for nine shot attempts. Dutch keeper Morgan Finkenbinder (junior, Elkhorn, Neb., Skutt Catholic HS) stood his tallest when it mattered most with a pair of saves in the final 15 minutes. He finished with three total saves.

The Dutch outshot the Blue Devils 18-9 and earned 10 corner kicks.

Central travels to Grinnell College at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
