MONMOUTH, ILL.— Starting the regular season against a familiar foe, the Central College women's tennis team defeated Monmouth College (Ill.) 6-1 Saturday afternoon.
It's the sixth August in a row that the Dutch (1-0) and Scots (0-1) have opened the season against each other, with Central winning all six. The Dutch have a 17-0 advantage all time in the series.
The Dutch swept the doubles matches and the opening point, with
Lauren Gano (senior, Johnston) and Emma Murphy (senior, Liberty) leading the way 7-5 in the No. 1 slot.
The Dutch took five of six singles matches including dominant 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 3 singles by
Emily Blom (junior, Pella) and No. 5 singles by
Claire Smock (sophomore, Pella).
Central hosts Morningside University at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 4.
