Central shut out in league softball tournament

Dutch exit in quarterfinal loss

PELLA — The offense for the Central College softball team was held in check for all seven innings during a 5-0 loss in the American Rivers Conference quarterfinals.

Central (29-12) had just three hits and had just five base runners reach scoring position against Loras (28-13).

The best scoring opportunity for Central came in the sixth inning when Elise Evans Murphy (junior, left fielder, Sergeant Bluff, Sergeant Bluff-Luton HS), Rylee Dunkin (junior, catcher, Hamilton, Twin Cedars HS) and Sarah Stufflebeam (junior, third baseman, Macomb, Ill.) all reached via walk. The Duhawks ended the threat on a Hannah Higgins (senior, third baseman, Macomb, Ill.) pop out.

Starting pitcher Peyton Levine (freshman, Oswego, Ill., Yorkville HS) took the loss, facing just three batters and recording one out. She allowed one earned run, on one hit and one walk. Jadyn Huisman (sophomore, Treynor) was charged with three runs, two earned, in 1.0 innings of work. Ella Morse (freshman, Tucson, Ariz., Sabino HS) did the heavy lifting with 4.2 innings out of the bullpen. She allowed one unearned run to score on five hits and four walks.

Addi Starr (sophomore, first baseman, Ankeny, Centennial HS) had her team-leading 12th double in the second inning.  Larissa Miller and Emma Anderson each notched singles.
