INDIANOLA — Nothing seemed to go the way the Central College baseball team wanted Tuesday night in a 14-4 and 14-6 losses at Simpson College.
For the first time this season, the Dutch (13-19) lost all three games of a series in American Rivers Conference play. Second baseman Bryer Wiley (sophomore, Urbana, Center Point-Urbana HS) drove in three of the four runs scored.
Max Steinlage (senior, Cedar Falls) was the losing pitcher, allowing five runs but no earned runs to score in the first two innings.
Wiley had two more RBI in the second game. He also served as the starting pitcher and took the loss after five earned runs scored in the first two innings. Bryce Haessig (senior, Huxley, Ballard HS) had a great relief outing, allowing one earned run over 4.0 innings.
All six of Central's runs came in the fifth inning as the Dutch took advantage of four walks, a hit by pitch, a wild pitch and a balk.
Only seven of Simpson's 14 runs in the second game were earned as the Dutch struggled defensively with seven errors. They also had three in the first game.
Central hosts the University of Dubuque for a weekend series, starting Friday at 3 p.m.
