Dutch victorious in final game of Luther baseball series

Central win game three but drop three-game set

DECORAH — Another stellar offensive performance by third baseman Brayden Sawyer (Grundy Center) was key for the Central College baseball team in its 6-3 win over Luther College Saturday.

After getting swept Friday, the Dutch (13-16, 8-7 American Rivers Conference) made sure to not make the drive home from Decorah empty handed. The Norse dropped to 22-8 overall and 12-4 in the league.

Sawyer scored three of the team's six runs and drove in two of the remaining three. He tallied the game's first run on an RBI double by catcher Dom DeLaPaz (senior, Davenport, West HS) in the first inning. He had RBI singles in the second and eighth innings, finishing with three total hits.

Shortstop Garrett Guenther (junior, Grayslake, Ill., Central HS) stayed hot with two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Right fielder Lance Ludens (freshman, Mediapolis) made his first career start and connected for a double.

Bryer Wiley (sophomore, Urbana, Center Point-Urbana HS) picked up his third win of the season on the mound. Striking out nine and scattering nine hits over 7.0 innings. He walked three and gave up a pair of earned runs. Turner Williams (junior, Newton) had a two-inning save, his third of the season.
