MELBOURNE, FLORIDA—None of the 19 plate appearances for the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts resulted in a hit Wednesday during an 8-0, five-inning win by the Central College softball team.
Central (11-1) also defeated Rutgers University – Newark (N.J.) 5-2.
Jadyn Huisman (sophomore, Treynor) allowed three batters to reach by walk against MCLA but also struck out four of the 11 batters faced.
Rylie Van Wyk (senior, Mitchellville, Southeast Polk HS) also had two hitless innings to close out the game.
The Dutch offense had seven hits, including two apiece from
Sarah Stufflebeam (junior, Macomb, Ill.) and
Hannah Higgins (senior, Macomb, Ill.). Higgins and
Katelyn McCallum (junior, Snohomish, Wash., Glacier Peak HS) each drove in two runs.
On her RBI single in the first inning, Higgins joined Central's 100-hit club.
Catcher
Rylee Dunkin (junior, Hamilton, Twin Cedars HS) scored three times for Central in game two, including her first home run of the season in the fifth inning which also scored
Carley Underwood (junior, Mitchellville, Colfax-Mingo HS). Dunkin and
Addi Starr (sophomore, Ankeny, Centennial HS) each had two hits for the Dutch.
Peyton Levine (freshman, Oswego, Ill., Yorkville HS) pitched the full seven innings, striking out nine while scattering seven hits for two earned runs scored. She's now 3-0 this season.
Central concludes its Florida excursion by facing Hamilton University (N.Y.) and the University of Massachusetts-Boston on Thursday.
