Dutch come up short twice in baseball twinbill

Central struggles at Augustana Invitational

ROCK ISLAND, ILL. — Playing a split doubleheader Saturday at the Augustana Invitational, the Central College baseball team lost 4-2 to Eureka University (Ill.) and 9-1 against Augustana.

In is opener against Eureka (2-10), Central (4-7) had three costly errors in the field which allowed Eureka three unearned runs. Offensively, both teams notched seven hits but the Dutch stranded 11 runners on base. Catcher Brock Luna (junior, Moline, Ill.) had an RBI double and David DiStefano (sophomore, Janesville, Wis., Craig HS) had a solo home run.

Jackson Torbit (sophomore, St. Louis, Mo., Webster Groves HS) tossed seven innings on 82 pitches, striking out five and walking none. He allowed the go-ahead run to reach base in the eighth inning before turning it over to Cameron Moreno (sophomore, Moline, Ill.)

The Vikings tagged starting pitcher Bryer Wiley (sophomore, Urbana, Center Point-Urbana HS) early, recording seven hits and belting two home runs in the first three innings.

Torbit had the only RBI for Central in game two with his single in the seventh.

Central has its home opener Wednesday against Grinnell College at 2 p.m.
