Dutch baseball pitchers fan 11 Blue Jay batters

Central split to end St. Louis trip

SAUGET, ILL. — A pair of strong pitching performances paced the Central College baseball team to a 6-2 win over Westminster College (Mo.) on Sunday morning.

Starting pitcher Bryer Wiley (sophomore, Urbana, Center Point-Urbana HS) had six strikeouts over 6.1 innings of work. He allowed just two earned runs and five hits. Turner Williams (junior, Newton) struck out five in 2.2 innings of relief work. He allowed one earned run on four hits. Neither Wiley nor Williams issued a walk.

Center fielder Max Steinlage (senior, Cedar Falls) led the Dutch (4-5) offense with three hits and two walks, scoring a trio of runs. Shortstop Garrett Guenther (junior, Grayslake, Ill., Central HS) had two hits and also scored two runs.

Second baseman Jaden Kramer (senior, Cedar Falls) had two hits and two RBI. Catcher Dom DeLaPaz (fifth year, Davenport, West HS) had two RBI

In the nightcap, Central was blanked 6-0 against the Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.). Guenther led Central with two hits. Steinlage took the loss on the mound, allowing one unearned run 4.0 innings of work. He struck out three and walked one.

Next for Central is a 2 p.m. game against Hope College (Mich.) in Rock Island, Illinois on Saturday, March 14.
