DUBUQUE — The Central College women's basketball team traveled to Dubuque on Saturday for a conference matchup against the University of Dubuque Spartans, where it came out with an 86-75 win.
The Dutch (9-12, 4-6 American Rivers Conference) offense was firing on all cylinders from start to finish. A strong first half showing catapulted them to a 42-33 halftime lead. The second quarter specifically is where Central was really able to get into a rhythm, putting up 24 points to outpace the Spartans, who scored an impressive 21.
This wasn't all the Dutch had in store, however, as they came out in the second half and picked up right where they left off. They continued to get what they wanted both at the rim and on the perimeter, shooting an efficient 53.4% from the field and 38.1% from beyond the arc. While Dubuque's offense had a strong showing themselves, it wasn't enough to keep up with Central, who was in control for the majority of the game.
Guard
Emily Naughton (junior, Indianola) caught fire in the second half, where she scored 16 of her 25 total points. While the point total is impressive, it's the efficiency with which she scored that makes you say "wow." Naughton only missed three shots on the day, shooting 8-11 from the field (73%) and 3-3 from three. Forward
CeCe Moore (junior, Waterloo, West HS) had herself a game as well, with an 18 point and 10 rebound double-double.
The Dutch will look to carry this momentum into a Wednesday evening showdown against Simpson College. The game will take place in Pella with a 5:30 start time!
