DECORAH — A dominant stretch in the middle weights paved the way for the Central College men's wrestling team in a 34-15 win over Luther College Tuesday night.
Carter West (sophomore, Burlington, Notre Dame HS) begin the match at 125 pounds with a fall with just 19 seconds remaining in the bout.
Pierre Baldwin (senior, 141 pounds, Chicago, Ill., West Chicago HS) started a four-match winning streak with a 20-3 technical fall that was equaled by
Cade Siebrecht's (senior, 149 pounds, Lisbon) 18-2 technical fall.
Christian Stanek (junior, Cedar Rapids, Xavier HS) continued the run with a 7-3 decision to send the match into intermission with the Dutch up 19-3.
After the break, Luther elected to move their two highest rated wrestlers up a weight class each from 165 and 174 pounds to 174 and 184 pounds. Freshman
Shane Hanford (Melbourne, West Marshall HS) took advantage and used a headlock for a pin at 165 pounds.
The Norse narrowed the margin to 25-15 heading into the 197-pound match where
Sam West (senior, Burlington, Notre Dame HS) avenged a loss earlier in the season by defeating Ben Strehlow 8-3.
Jamal Neeway (freshman, Waukee, Northwest HS) put an exclamation point on a loud night in P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium with a third pin for Central at 285 pounds.
