PELLA — Jumping out to a 29-13 lead after the first quarter sparked the Central College women's basketball team to a 73-50 win over Luther College Saturday, securing its spot in the American Rivers Conference tournament.
The Dutch (12-13, 7-9 American Rivers Conference) will be the No. 6 seed and travel to No. 3 Buena Vista University for Tuesday's quarterfinal game.
Central was 9 of 16 from the field in the first quarter, including four made 3-pointers. Luther only led for 3 minutes and 14 seconds of the contest.
Five Central players reached double figures in scoring, including seniors
Jasmyn Williams (senior, Commerce City, Colo., Arvada West HS) and
Bailey Reding (senior, Grundy Center) who each had 10.
Emily Naughton (guard, junior, Indianola) led the squad with 11 while
Kaitlyn Mumm (junior, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) and
CeCe Moore (forward, junior, Waterloo, West HS) also had 10.
Moore also had nine rebounds and two blocks. Williams added three steals.
Central also had another strong outing at the free throw line, making 17 of 19 attempts.
The start time for Tuesday's quarterfinal will be officially determined Sunday.
