CEDAR RAPIDS —The Central College women's basketball team ran into a buzzsaw against Coe College Wednesday night as the American Rivers Conference's top team won 74-50.
Coe (14-3, 8-0 conference) outscored Central (7-10, 2-6 conference) 19-6 in the first quarter but the Dutch held a 17-15 scoring advantage in the second quarter to make it an 11-point game at halftime. A 40-point second half by the Kohawks propelled them to victory.
Offensively, Central struggled from the field, making 18 of 51 shot attempts for a shooting percentage of 35.3.
Emily Naughton (junior, Indianola) was the high scorer with 10 while
Bailey Reding (senior, Grundy Center) had nine.
Senior guard
Jadyn Filling (Ankeny) led the team with five rebounds. The Dutch were outrebounded 32-23.
Jasmyn Williams (senior, Commerce City, Colo., Arvada West HS) had three of Central's 12 assists.
Central starts the second half of conference play on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Buena Vista University. The Dutch beat the Beavers 78-61 against the Beavers on December 6 in Storm Lake.
